Since 2007, the University of Illinois Medical Center has been home to the Walter Payton Liver Center, a comprehensive liver disease treatment and research program named in honor of legendary Chicago Bear running back Walter Payton, who died of liver cancer in 1999. The center has set a goal of finding a cure for liver cancer by 2020.
The Walter Payton Center GUILD, a volunteer fundraising organization, is a key partner in the center’s work. Through its fundraising activities, including the Green Ribbon Rally, the GUILD has helped fund the center’s acquisition of the latest medical technology, including a new $400,000 advanced imaging machine for research and state-of-the-art robotics equipment. GUILD contributions also have helped fund outreach programs to educate and inform at-risk communities, as well as help expand services to patients in Chinatown, Peoria and Rockford.
Join the Team and Make a Contribution to the Victory Over Liver Disease
The University of Illinois researchers and physicians at the Walter Payton Liver Center are making breakthroughs in the treatment of gastrointestinal and liver disease—and the cure for liver cancer is within sight. However, this only can be achieved with continued research and medical advances—made possible by the generous and ongoing support of corporations and individuals like you. The Walter Payton Center GUILD welcomes any and all support, whether in the form of a Green Ribbon Rally sponsorship, a financial contribution, participation as a volunteer in the rally or any time or special skills you can bring to the cause.
